About the teacher
Meet your child’s math teacher
Hi, I’m Sumit Mehta.
I teach every lesson at The Math Meridian, from Grade 3 through Grade 12, and I have more than 12 years of classroom experience.
I hold a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, and an MBA from University Canada West. I’m currently completing my Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).

Every student understands math instead of memorizing it, and meets each new grade, test and challenge with confidence.
To help students in Grades 3 to 12 build real understanding of math through patient, personal teaching from one experienced teacher, while keeping parents informed at every step.
Why memorizing steps isn’t enough
In 12 years of teaching, I’ve seen the same pattern at every grade level. Students who memorize steps can do well on the questions they’ve practised. But as soon as a question is worded differently or combines two ideas, they don’t know where to begin.
They often conclude they’re “bad at math.” The real issue is that nobody showed them why the method works.
Math builds on itself
- A Grade 4 student who understands what multiplication means finds fractions far easier in Grade 6.
- A Grade 8 student who understands why we do the same thing to both sides of an equation is ready for high school algebra.
- A Grade 11 student who understands what a function is can face an unfamiliar problem on a test and reason through it.
When that understanding is missing, each new grade means memorizing a fresh set of rules on top of rules that were never clear, and the gaps grow.
How I teach
That’s why I teach for understanding at every grade. In my lessons, students:
- explain their thinking
- see more than one way to solve a problem
- learn where a formula comes from before they use it
Practice and fluency still matter, and we do plenty of both. They just come after the idea makes sense.
What it means for your child
Students who learn this way remember more from year to year, cope better with new types of questions and become noticeably more confident.
Your child works with me in every lesson, not a rotating team of tutors, and you’ll get regular updates on what they’re working on and how they’re progressing.
