Learn it With the same top number, more pieces means smaller pieces. With the same bottom number, more pieces taken means a bigger fraction.
Example: Which is bigger, $\frac{1}{3}$ or $\frac{1}{6}$?
- $\frac{1}{3}$ cuts the whole into 3 pieces; $\frac{1}{6}$ cuts it into 6.
- Fewer pieces means each piece is bigger.
- So $\frac{1}{3} > \frac{1}{6}$.
