Learn it Same denominator: compare numerators. Same numerator: the smaller denominator is bigger. Otherwise, rewrite both with a common denominator.

Example: Compare $\frac{2}{3}$ and $\frac{3}{5}$.

  1. A common denominator is 15.
  2. $\frac{2}{3} = \frac{10}{15}$ and $\frac{3}{5} = \frac{9}{15}$.
  3. 10 > 9, so $\frac{2}{3} > \frac{3}{5}$.
