Learn it Find the biggest multiple of the divisor that fits, then the remainder is what's left. The remainder must be less than the divisor.
Example: $85 \div 6$
- Multiples of 6 near 85: $6 \times 14 = 84$, $6 \times 15 = 90$ (too big).
- $85 - 84 = 1$ left over.
- $85 \div 6 = 14\text{ R}1$.
