Learn it To evaluate an expression, replace the variable with its value, then use the order of operations. $4n$ means $4 \times n$.

Example: Find $2n^2 - n$ when $n = 5$.

  1. Replace n with 5: $2 \times 5^2 - 5$.
  2. Exponent first: $5^2 = 25$, then $2 \times 25 = 50$.
  3. $50 - 5 = 45$.
