Learn it The square root $\sqrt{x}$ asks: which number times itself makes x? It undoes squaring.
Example: Find $\sqrt{324}$. Then estimate $\sqrt{200}$.
- $18 \times 18 = 324$, so $\sqrt{324} = 18$.
- $14^2 = 196$ and $15^2 = 225$.
- 200 is between them, so $\sqrt{200}$ is between 14 and 15 (closer to 14).
