Learn it A line of symmetry splits a shape into mirror-image halves. A regular polygon with n sides has n lines of symmetry.
Example: How many lines of symmetry do a rectangle and a regular hexagon have?
- Rectangle (not a square): fold top-to-bottom and side-to-side → 2. The diagonals don't work.
- Regular hexagon: 6 sides → 6 lines.
- Rectangle 2, hexagon 6.
