Learn it × 10, 100, 1,000: the decimal point moves 1, 2, 3 places right. ÷ 10, 100, 1,000: it moves left. Add zeros if you run out of digits.

Example: $3.75 \times 100$ and $4.2 \div 1{,}000$

  1. $3.75 \times 100$: move the point 2 places right → 375.
  2. $4.2 \div 1{,}000$: move the point 3 places left → 0.0042 (fill with zeros) → 0.0042.
