Learn it Sales tax is often a percent of the price (here 13%). Tax = 0.13 × price (rounded to the nearest cent). Total = price + tax, or price × 1.13.

Example: A jacket costs $\$40.00$. What is the total with tax?

  1. Tax: $0.13 \times 40 = 5.20$.
  2. Total: $40.00 + 5.20 = 45.20$.
  3. You pay $\$45.20$.
