Learn it The distance between $(x_1, y_1)$ and $(x_2, y_2)$ is $d = \sqrt{(x_2 - x_1)^2 + (y_2 - y_1)^2}$: the Pythagorean theorem on the grid.
Example: Find the distance between (−2, 1) and (4, 9).
- Changes: $4 - (-2) = 6$ and $9 - 1 = 8$.
- $d = \sqrt{6^2 + 8^2} = \sqrt{100}$.
- $d = 10$.
