Learn it "Of" means multiply. In multi-step problems, notice whether a fraction is of the original amount or of what is left.
Example: You have $\$120$, spend $\frac{1}{4}$ of it, then $\frac{2}{3}$ of what is left. How much remains?
- Spend $\frac{1}{4}$ of 120 = 30, leaving 90.
- Spend $\frac{2}{3}$ of 90 = 60, leaving 30.
- $\$30$ remains (not $120 - 30 - 80$!).
