Learn it Each number in Pascal's triangle is the sum of the two above it. Row n lists $\binom{n}{0}, \binom{n}{1}, \dots, \binom{n}{n}$, and row n adds up to $2^n$.

Example: Write row 5 and find its sum.

  1. Row 4 is 1, 4, 6, 4, 1.
  2. Row 5: 1, 1+4, 4+6, 6+4, 4+1, 1 = 1, 5, 10, 10, 5, 1.
  3. Sum: $32 = 2^5$.
