Learn it To make a different letter the subject, undo the operations around it in reverse order, doing the same to both sides.

Example: Make C the subject of $F = \frac{9}{5}C + 32$.

  1. Subtract 32: $F - 32 = \frac{9}{5}C$.
  2. Multiply by $\frac{5}{9}$: $C = \frac{5}{9}(F - 32)$.
  3. E.g. F = 50: $C = \frac{5}{9} \times 18 = 10$°C.
