Learn it $a^{\frac{1}{n}}$ is the $n$th root of $a$, and $a^{\frac{m}{n}} = (\sqrt[n]{a})^m$. Take the root first so the numbers stay small.
Example: $27^{\frac{2}{3}}$ and $16^{-\frac{3}{4}}$
- $\sqrt[3]{27} = 3$, and $3^2 = 9$.
- $\sqrt[4]{16} = 2$, $2^3 = 8$, negative exponent → $\frac{1}{8}$.
