Review: Multi-step percent increase and decrease

Questions at easy, medium and hard levels. Pick a level and get a fresh set every time, with instant feedback.

Learn it Successive percent changes multiply: an increase of p% is × (1 + p/100), a decrease is × (1 − p/100). You cannot just add the percents.

Example: A $\$200$ item goes up 20%, then down 20%. What is the final price?

  1. Up 20%: $200 \times 1.2 = 240$.
  2. Down 20%: $240 \times 0.8 = 192$.
  3. Final $\$192$: an overall drop of 4%, not 0%!
