Learn it Split the number into the biggest perfect square times what is left: $\sqrt{ab} = \sqrt{a}\sqrt{b}$. A radical is simplified when no square factor is left inside.
Example: Simplify $3\sqrt{72}$
- $72 = 36 \times 2$ (36 is the biggest square factor).
- $\sqrt{72} = \sqrt{36}\sqrt{2} = 6\sqrt{2}$.
- $3 \times 6\sqrt{2} = 18\sqrt{2}$.
