Answer key

  1. 700+50 — $750 = 700 + 50$. Zeros are left out because they are worth nothing.
  2. C (The blue ribbon) — Compare 25, 52 and 41. 52 cm is the longest.
  3. 5206 — $5\,306 - 100 = 5\,206$.
  4. C (Yes, each gets 7) — $7 + 7 = 14$, so they each get 7.
  5. D ($-13$) — Both numbers are negative. Add $2 + 11 = 13$ and keep the negative sign: $-2 + (-11) = -13$.
  6. C (79) — The machine adds 8 each time. $71 + 8 = 79$.
  7. 11 — Put the two amounts together: $6 + 5 = 11$.
  8. B (2) — 7 fewer than 9 means take away: $9 - 7 = 2$.
  9. A (80) — $16 \times 10 = 160$, and half of that is 80. So $16 \times 5 = 80$.
  10. A (9) — $2 \times 6 = 12$ marbles. Then $12 - 3 = 9$.
  11. D ($\dfrac{5}{6}$) — Each time one more sixth is added. After $\dfrac{4}{6}$ comes $\dfrac{5}{6}$.
  12. 1 hour 15 minutes — Count on from $1{:}45$: it is 1 hour 15 minutes until $3{:}00$.
  13. A (August) — Count forward 2 months from June: you land on August.
  14. C (40¢) — Count on from the biggest coin: $25 + 10 + 5 = 40$, so the total is 40¢.
  15. 8 — A flat shape with straight sides has the same number of sides as corners: 8.
  16. A (11) — Count everything inside the circles: $2 + 3 + 6 = 11$.
  17. B (Sunday) — Yesterday was Friday, so today is Saturday, and tomorrow is Sunday.
  18. 5 — The missing number is $218 - 23 = 195$, so $19\mathrm{M}$ is 195. That means $\mathrm{M} = 5$.
