Tip A quick way to do these in your head
Ending in 5: 35² → 3 × 4 = 12, then 25 → 1,225. Near 50: 48² = (50 − 2)² = 2,500 − 200 + 4 = 2,304. Last digit of a square root: √1,849 ends in 3 or 7, and 40² = 1,600, so it's 43.
