Learn it The angle of elevation is measured up from the horizontal to an object; the angle of depression is measured down from the horizontal. Draw the right triangle, label what you know, and use the right trig ratio.
Example: From 40 m away, the angle of elevation to the top of a building is 52°. How tall is it?
- tan 52° = h/40.
- h = 40 tan 52° ≈ 51.2 m.
