Similar figures: ratios of area and volume

Questions at easy, medium and hard levels. Pick a level and get a fresh set every time, with instant feedback.

Learn it If two similar figures have lengths in the ratio k, their areas are in the ratio k² and their volumes in the ratio k³.

Example: Two similar cylinders have heights 4 cm and 12 cm. The small one holds 50 mL.

  1. k = 12 ÷ 4 = 3.
  2. Volume ratio k³ = 27, so the large one holds 50 × 27 = 1350 mL.
