Learn it In a right triangle, SOH CAH TOA links an angle to two sides: sin = opposite/hypotenuse, cos = adjacent/hypotenuse, tan = opposite/adjacent. Use the inverse (sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹) to find an angle. The two acute angles add to 90°.
Example: In right △ABC, ∠C = 90°, ∠A = 35° and c = 12 cm. Find a.
- a is opposite A and c is the hypotenuse: sin 35° = a/12.
- a = 12 sin 35° ≈ 6.9 cm.
