Learn it Expand brackets carefully and collect like terms. For radicals, simplify each root by taking out perfect-square factors, then combine like radicals (same number under the root).

Example: Simplify (2x − 3)(x + 4) − (x − 1)².

  1. (2x − 3)(x + 4) = 2x² + 5x − 12. (x − 1)² = x² − 2x + 1.
  2. Subtract: 2x² + 5x − 12 − x² + 2x − 1 = x² + 7x − 13.
