Learn it For ax² + bx + c = 0, the roots add to −b/a and multiply to c/a. For a cubic ax³ + bx² + cx + d = 0, the roots add to −b/a and multiply to −d/a. You don't need to solve to use these.

Example: Roots of 2x² − 7x + 3 = 0: sum and product?

  1. Sum = −(−7)/2 = 7/2.
  2. Product = 3/2.
