Learn it Volume is how much space a solid takes up. Count the cubes: a box 4 long, 2 wide and 3 tall has 4 × 2 = 8 cubes in each layer and 3 layers: 24 cubes.

Example: A box 3 long, 2 wide, 2 tall.

One layer: 3 × 2 = 6 cubes.
2 layers: 6 × 2 = 12 cubes.
