Learn it A linear function $y = mx + b$ has a constant rate of change m (how much y changes when x goes up by 1) and an initial value b (y when x = 0).
Example: A taxi charges $\$4$ plus $\$2$ per km.
- Initial value b = 4.
- Rate of change m = 2.
- $C = 2k + 4$. For 9 km: $C = 2(9) + 4 = 22$.
