Learn it Parallel lines have equal slopes. Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals (their product is −1).

Example: Slope perpendicular to $y = \frac{2}{3}x + 1$?

  1. Flip $\frac{2}{3}$ to $\frac{3}{2}$.
  2. Change the sign: $-\frac{3}{2}$.
  3. Check: $\frac{2}{3} \times (-\frac{3}{2}) = -1$ ✓
